2007-2009: «International Year of Planet Earth»

The International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE), as proclaimed by the United Nations during its 60th General Assembly, is a 3-years event (2007-2009) aimed at promoting the contribution to sustainable development of society by using knowledge and information provided by the geosciences. The International Year of Planet Earth is a joint initiative by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and UNESCO, supported by 12 Founding Partners and 26 Associate Partners, sponsors and donors.
